STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
Any professional athlete knows that they need to include regular strength and conditioning training in their schedule to perform at their best. This vital training tactic improves overall performance and reduce the risk of injury on the field. This is why we include a strength and conditioning programme in both our rugby and soccer training programmes. This is run by our highly qualified and experienced Sharks Academy conditioning team.

EXAMPLE OF A WEEKLY SCHEDULE
After an intense and exhilarating day on the field and in our classrooms you can expect to be put to the test in our strength and conditioning programme groups. These are run from 14:00 – 14:45PM and are usually followed by a rest day for your body to recover.
OUR UNIQUE OFFERING
We have created a fun working environment at the Sharks Academy, using an athlete centred coaching approach to develop the player as a whole person to cater for his entire working career.
We focus on raising our students awareness, building their character and empowering individuals to take responsibility for their decisions. This is done to encourage the individuals within a team context to express themselves, utilising different simulated games to assist in intuitive decision making under pressure in a match situation. We aim to get the best out of each individual to fulfill their their potential in a safe environment.

NIKEAL KALYAN
Conditioning Trainer
Nikeal Kalyan has been a professional Strength and Conditioning coach at the Sharks Academy for almost 6 years. He has a Bachelors Degree as well and an Honours qualification in Sports and Exercise from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. Nikeal is a big asset to our team and has experience with our U19 and U20 teams.
MICHAELA DIAZ
Conditioning Trainer
Michaela Diaz is another one of our passionate strength and conditioning trainers and has been a part of our team for 4 years. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports and Exercise and an Honours Qualification in Sports and Exercise from the University of Pretoria.
PIETER TERBLANCHE
Conditioning Trainer
Pieter Terblanche brings many years of experience in the strength and conditioning industry. He has his honours in Biokinetics, specialising in Sports and Exercise, from the University of Pretoria. He has 9 years of exercise as a biokineticist for the Blue Bulls and has a certificate for being a World Rugby Educator in Strength and Conditioning that is registered with World Rugby.

Conditioning Trainer (Intern)
Olwethu Sityata, our incredible Strength and Conditioning training interns has been a part of our team for almost 2 years. She studied a Sport Science Diploma and a BA in Human Movement Science at North West University and did her Bsc Honours in Human Movement Science, Biokinetics at the University of Zululand.
